Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJSU), founded in 1911, is the pioneer of business education in Zhejiang Province, and also one of the earliest business schools in China. For more than 100 years, the university has been adhering to the tradition of running a business school, and vigorously implementing the strategy of "striving to be a first-class university through innovation, distinction and integration and ", so as to build a national first-class business school and world-renowned high-level university.

Statistics is a traditional predominant discipline of ZJSU, and has the right to confer bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctor’s degree. In 1996, it became a key supporting discipline in Zhejiang Province. In 2005, it was once again rated as A-level discipline in Zhejiang Province; In 2006, it was awarded the first key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province; In 2007, it was approved as a national characteristic discipline. In 2010, it was awarded the national-level teaching groups. It became the first batch of schools that have the right to confer doctor’s degree in statistics in 2011 and the first to have national first-level discipline postdoctoral mobile station in statistics in 2012. In 2016, it was rated as A-level first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and in 2017, it was listed as advantageous and characteristic disciplines of key universities in Zhejiang Province. In addition, it was among top 10% in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and ranked the 7th in national level and 1st in Zhejiang Province.
